Position overview

University House is the ceremonial heart of Australia's National University, and a heritage-listed property that incorporates a boutique hotel and functions and events venues. Its commercial businesses serve University staff and graduate students, visitors to and guests of the University, and members of the community.

We are seeking a professional, enthusiastic and knowledgeable Events & Sales Manager to lead a busy department to deliver high quality events and sales development undertakings across all departments of the property.  You will use wide industry knowledge to develop, implement and manage a range of events that include intimate high level VIP gatherings to large scale celebrations that cater for thousands at a time whilst delivering on revenue budgets and sales targets.  Your knowledge of current industry trends in food, beverage and events will allow you to develop your department into a renowned high quality events facility capable to meet any challenge head on.

You will work alongside the Executive Chef and Food & Beverage Manager to create and implement business strategies that deliver on annual business targets whilst balancing guest expectation, budgetary requirements and operational capabilities.  As part of the Senior Leadership Team reporting to the Operations Manager, you will also reflect a high level of personal presentation, professionalism and leadership in all circumstances to ensure the best possible outcome for the House and ANU.

Your day-to-day duties include working strategically with the management team, monitoring budgets with regards to sales, regular reporting on trading performance, client management, review and refinement of marketing initiatives along with training and mentoring of your events sales team.  The development of annual marketing strategies and sales targets along with statistical and trend analysis will be a key component of this senior management role.

The development and implementation of standard operating procedures across the department will be a critical component to deliver ongoing high quality guest experiences.  Key stakeholder engagement includes Department Heads, ANU clients and external clients, a proven ability in managing stakeholder relationships is highly desirable.

As a member of a busy department, you will have excellent communication skills, a commitment to continuous improvement, high attention to detail, and strong understanding and application of HACCP and Workplace Health and Safety.   If you are interested joining our team, our benefits include:
