The ANU College of Science (CoS) comprises: the Research School of Astronomy and Astrophysics, the Research School of Biology, the Research School of Chemistry, the Research School of Earth Science, the Fenner School of Environment and Society, the Mathematical Sciences Institute, the Research School of Physics and Engineering, and the Centre for the Public Awareness of Science. Staff and students within the ANU College of Science conduct research and deliver a research-led education program that encompasses the entire breadth of the sciences, supported by extensive international networks and by world-class facilities. The College has a strong tradition of research excellence that has fostered distinguished Nobel Laureate and Kyoto Prize winners and trained scientific leaders in disciplines in which the ANU is consistently ranked in the top twenty in the world.
The Research School of Chemistry was founded in 1967. This year the School reaches its 50th anniversary celebrating research excellence, remarkable international and industry collaborations, state-of-the-art laboratories, equipment and facilities and progressive undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, achieved by the contribution of all staff members. The School currently divides its research into four themes; Biological chemistry, Inorganic chemistry, Organic chemistry and Physical & Theoretical chemistry, and hosts 47 academic and 34 professional staff members and more than 800 undergraduate and postgraduate students.
The Postdoctoral Fellow will be located within the Computer Aided Design Research Group, Physical & Theoretical Chemistry. The Postdoctoral Fellow will contribute to one of the following research projects led by Professor Michelle Coote.
Project 1. ARC Laureate Project ‘Controlling chemical reactions via pH-switchable electrostatic catalysis
Project 2. ARC Centre of Excellence for Electromaterials Science (ACES)
Project 1 is concerned with the computational design and experimental implementation of pH-switchable organocatalysts for organic synthesis, whilst project 2 is concerned with a number of theoretical projects focussed on the study of electric field effects and the design of materials for energy and 3D-printing applications.
The successful candidate will have made progress towards, or completed a PhD in Theoretical Chemistry or Organic Synthesis or another related discipline. Demonstrated research experience with a track record of independent research is essential.
