This is an opportunity to work with an internationally-recognised population health research team on two significant government-funded research projects, which may will lead to policy change and ultimately measurable change in Australia's population health.
ANU has an international reputation for research and education relevant to the health and well-being of the population of Australia, as well as that of the developing world. This is achieved through discovery research, applied research in health service settings, research-led teaching in health and medical sciences, and the translation of research findings into practice and policy. The ANU College of Health and Medicine comprises the Research School of Psychology, the ANU Medical School, the John Curtin School of Medical Research and the Research School of Population Health. These schools work together to deliver world-class research and education across the spectrum of medicine and health-related fields, working in partnership with the health sector at local, national and international levels.
The public health medicine registrar will work in the National Centre for Epidemiology and Population Health (NCEPH) on two high-profile projects: The E-cigarette Public Health Assessment Study (e-cig study) and the Per- and poly-fluorinated alkyl (PFAS) Health Study. The appointee will divide their time evenly between the two projects. Both of these projects are funded by the Australian Department of Health and require high-levels of engagement with experts, stakeholders and community groups. These projects will allow the trainee to develop skills in the core Australasian Faculty of Public Health Medicine competencies of Leadership, Epidemiology, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health, Public Health Leadership and Teaching, Environmental Health and Organisational Management.
